Dow, Bay County Habitat Announce Neighborhood Revitalization Project

On June 3 the Dow Chemical Company and Bay County Habitat for Humanity announced plans for a Neighborhood Revitalization Project that will take place July 24 through July 31 in Bay City.  With the help of hundreds of Dow employees and local volunteers, the project team has committed to restoring approximately 40 owner-occupied homes in the Jablonski-Rexer neighborhood on the city’s southeast side. Representatives from Dow, Habitat, the City of Bay City, the Bay Area Housing Alliance and Paint & Pride currently serve on the planning team.

“This project is all about collaboration,” says David Dupre, vice president of Dow’s Michigan Operations Manufacturing Site. “By partnering with local organizations for services and funding, we can stretch the dollars and have a much greater impact on the community.”

“Habitat is pleased to have Dow as a partner in the Neighborhood Revitalization Project,” says Bob Jarve, executive director, Bay County Habitat for Humanity. “We’ve been talking with the homeowners in the neighborhood for the past several weeks, and they are looking forward to working alongside our volunteers to get the work done.”

Anybody interested in volunteering for this project is encouraged to click on the Dow-Bay County HFH Neighborhood Revitaliztion Volunteer form field in the upper right corner of this page.

Bay City native Chris Kowalczyk is one of this year’s participating homeowners. His home has been in his family for more than 100 years. “I’ve put a lot of time and energy into restoring my house, but I have not had the resources to paint it” he said. “I’ve already requested vacation for that week, and my teenage sons are also looking forward to helping, and they have friends that are eager to help out, too.

Many homeowners already have worked endless hours to improve their homes and make a difference in their neighborhood. The goal of this project is to help those homeowners put on the finishing touches and encourage other homeowners to get involved.

Dow’s relationship with Habitat began in the early 1980s.  Since then, Dow has contributed millions in financial and product support. Thousands of our employees have volunteered their time to help with local builds and other Habitat activities over the past 25-plus years, including the 2008 Neighborhood Revitalization Project in Saginaw.
